Toronto Twitter Troll Trial Exposes Jezebel’s Trigger Happy Gender Baiting (Feat. Lindy West)

Lindy West: Overzealous Feminist

Lindy West: Overzealous Feminist Writer

Jezebel.com is a radical feminist website owned by Gawker that’s known as one of the most angry and controversial addresses on the Internet. Their articles are often visceral, intentionally provocative, and occasionally demeaning towards men. Jezebel has an unabashed agenda to promote radical feminism über alles- which is fair, we all have the privilege of free speech (at least, until Jezebel types rule the world).

One of Jezebel’s favourite issues is online harassment and “stalking”, so it’s no surprise to see them chiming in on the Gregory Alan Elliott Twitter trolling trial. Elliott has been charged with criminal harassment for sending unwanted tweets to three Toronto feminists- the type of case that gives wet dreams to your average Jezebel writer.

Lindy West jumped onto the case with so much gusto she forgot to check her facts…

Was Antonia Zerbisias Article On Twitter “Troll” Gregory Alan Elliott A Vindictive Attack?

Antonia Zerbisias: Anarchist aficionado with a taste for beer…

Gregory Alan Elliott used to be a royal pain in the ass. Elliott was a prolific user of Twitter who was notorious for his snarkiness and persistence. Some of Elliott’s tweets were funny, some exposed the hypocrisy of our politicians, but there were tweets that a few thought crossed the line. Now he’s been banned from using the Internet and in the process of being tried for criminal harassment. The court has already determined that no threats were made.

Stephanie Guthrie (@AmIRightFolks) is a Toronto feminist who (according to the Toronto Star) has taken on a “war against the trolls”. This isn’t the first time she’s taken on people she and her friends have deemed as misogynists; in a previous incident she used social media to expose and chastise someone who created a provocative game where the (distasteful) goal was to use violence against a feminist character.

Guthrie is also incredibly well connected with Toronto’s left leaning political class including a number of outspoken city councillors (we’ll get to this in a future instalment)- people whose hypocrisy Elliot gets great amusement out of exposing. Their allies in the media have been pummelling Elliott like Rocky Balboa in a meat plant. Of all the journalists who’ve covered Elliott’s story, one sticks out as having been particularly nasty- and, perhaps, vindictive…

Idle No More Unmasked Part III: Let’s Follow The Money! (Feat. David Eby, Neil Young & Hollyhock)

cstreet-idle-no-more-we-love-unions-political-campaigns

Introduction:

In Part I of this series we explored the David Suzuki Foundation’s involvement with Idle No More and how they neglected to disclose their stakeholder status in their letters to Prime Minister Stephen Harper. In Part II, we looked into the background of INM’s webmaster and his connections to a global “revolution industry” that helped bring activist violence back in vogue.

In this instalment we’re going to kick things up a notch and start following the money. It’s a fascinating journey that will introduce many characters familiar to readers of this site, while exposing the money making machine that feeds some of Canada’s most high-profile union/NGO affiliated professional protesters. Join us as we dig deeper into the belly of the beast that’s been corrupting grassroots movements.

Idle No More Unmasked Part II: Who’s The American That Runs The Website? (Feat. Clayton Thomas-Muller)

spencer-mann-voiceraiser.com-idle-no-more

NOTE: Part I of this series can be found here

If you’ve spent time reading through Idle No More’s website you’ve probably seen Spencer Mann’s name a few times. Mann is Idle No More’s webmaster, and appears to be responsible for the majority of the content posted on the site. Mann is the sole proprietor of Voiceraiser.com, where he provides social media services like building webpages and producing videos- INM is profiled as one of his clients. His website says that he currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia but his LinkedIn says Montreal.

Mann’s biography is pretty much what one would expect of a professional activist, he describes his upbringing saying he was “born and raised in a solar and wind-powered home in the woods of Maine and was nourished on a strong sense of intentional community” (meaning, a commune). As an individual, Mann doesn’t appear to be very interesting- no indication of any ‘smashy smashy’ or other bad deeds in his past.

His network, however, gives us a fascinating glimpse into the global anti-capitalist movement, how its networks are reaching into Canada;  its connections with the violence at the 1999 Seattle WTO, Occupy, the Quebec Student Strikes, and a South American oil dictatorship.

[UPDATED] Vancouver Coastal Health Warns VANDU About Illegal Shooting Gallery! (But Ignores the Drug Dealer?)

Laura Case of VCH: Shooting gallery bad, drug dealers okay?

Laura Case of VCH: Shooting gallery bad, drug dealers okay?

Update: Coincidentally, while all of this is going on, VANDU is once again hosting the agitators at Vancouver Cop Watch

The Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) is probably the best example of the radical left making a mockery out of the city’s taxpayers. Funded through organizations like Vancouver Coastal Health ($250,437 in 2011), the group has been known for paying addicts to attend anti-gentrification protests, and using their government funded space as the headquarters for an anti-police group known for making racist and hateful attacks.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has been made aware of these incidents, but up until now they’ve spent more energy deflecting criticism than actually fixing the problem. Now it seems that the times are a ‘changin for VANDU and VCH is putting them on-notice. Well sort of, like the rest of the city’s drug policy, it seems that VCH is once more engaging in a half-baked approach.

Idle No More Unmasked Part I: What Didn’t The Suzuki Foundation Disclose In Their Letter To Stephen Harper?

Idle No More's four founders

Idle No More’s four founders

Introduction:

Idle No More, so the legend tells us, is a grassroots movement started by four indigenous women from Saskatchewan who were unhappy with parts of the federal government budget bill C-45. The movement’s message inspired protests across the country- most were peaceful, but there were incidents where militants took advantage leading blockades, and tampering with train tracks.

INM’s official narrative is very similar to Occupy’ with one major exception- Occupy openly admitted their movement was inspired by a foundation funded NGO (Adbusters) and funded by militant unions. INM claims to be grassroots- but is this entirely true? Many observers are skeptical, pointing out that INM is led and promoted by many of the same people who acted as leaders at Occupy.

Vancouver Observer’s Embedded Journalism Has Hilarious Results! (If they weren’t so sinister…)

There's so much more to the story...

The only ugliness was the Observer’s version of the story…

As readers of this site already know, the Vancouver Observer was founded based on a deception. When their editor Linda Solomon (sister of Joel Solomon, the head of TIDES Canada) arrived in Canada the first thing she did to garner favour with the city was to write a book called “Why I Love Vancouver”. The book’s cover stated that she’s a Pulitzer nominee- she’s not.

Since its founding, the Observer has gradually deteriorated to become the Pravda of the West Coast- promoting a con-artist who’s been terrorizing indigenous communities, publishing deeply personal attacks against TIDES’ critics and making-up scare stories about government spying. Now, right at the point where you’d think things couldn’t get worse, the Observer has taken one step deeper into the abyss- this time, participating in the desecration of Santa Claus, and making wild allegations against staff at the Port of Vancouver.

[Updated] Anarchists Light Queen Street Fire, Firefighters Attacked, Toronto Police AWOL, Media Duped?

Swamp Line 9 arrestee Trish Mills & Sierra Club exec Chelsea Flook feeding the fire...

Swamp Line 9 arrestee Trish Mills & ??? feeding the fire…

UPDATE: The story originally identified the person in the beige jacket feeding the fire as Chelsea Flook of the Sierra Club. Flook has written and said that it was not here. Your Humble Narrator apologizes for any misconceptions as a result of this error, but still points out that Flook promoted this event- behaviour that’s not appropriate for someone leading Canadian youth.

On Friday night a disturbed 18 year old man caused chaos and terror at Toronto’s Queen St. subway station, pulling out a weapon inside one of the trains. As people scrambled away to find safety, several police officers bravely ran in to help. The man told the police he felt he had no reason to live- shots were fired, the man is now in the hospital.

Nothing excites our city’s radical left protest community more than an opportunity to protest the police- and, despite there being zero evidence of police wrongdoing, Friday’s incident was no exception. The result was chaos on the streets of Toronto as the protesters blocked traffic, set a fire on the street, and attacked the firemen who came to put it out. All with zero visible police presence and/or enforcement.

Meanwhile, none of the Toronto media reported the full story…

Talking With Ezra Levant About The Usual Suspects (Feat. Line 9)

Yawn, Another Line 9 Pipeline Occupation… (Feat. The Usual Suspects)

A group of the usual suspects occupied an Enbridge construction site in north Toronto today. Protesting the Line 9 reversal project, the protesters claimed that Enbridge was jumping the gun on construction. Enbridge claims this was a maintenance project- something anti-pipeline protesters often complain the company doesn’t do enough of. Are we confused yet?

The one day occupation consisted of about 20 people. There were a few new faces in the crowd, but it was basically the same group of anarchists, professional protesters and religious extremists we see at every other event like this. That said, something was different today- there was a sense rot, lost momentum, and perhaps a dying movement?
