The Vancouver Observer’s NEB “Spying” Story Was A Shameless Deception (Feat. Elizabeth May & Joyce Murray)

Shifty: Green Party leader Elizabeth May believes that breaking windows isn’t violent…

Last week the Vancouver Observer published a scare story criticising the Harper government’s extensive spying on anti-oilsands groups. The writer explained that the “federal government” (wait, I thought it was Harper?) has been “vigorously spying” on anti oil sands activists and organizations across the country. Adding some fuel to the fire, they also hinted at a financial scandal claiming that the government is “subsidizing the energy industry in underwriting their costs”.

Like most claims of government spying, the story quickly went viral and was widely shared through social media. As public interest began to ignite the Observer published a follow-up story– this time quoting politicians including Green Party leader Elizabeth May, NDP House Leader Nathan Cullen. The article claimed that “politicians, environmentalists and First Nations alike are infuriated”.

While there’s a genuine reason to be infuriated over this story one would be misguided (in this case) to direct their anger towards the government. Because like their editor Linda Solomon, (intentionally or not) the Observer’s coverage of this story has been deceptive. The reality of this story appears to be more sinister than the Observer implies- only, it’s the politicians, journalists, and activists we need to be concerned about- they’re enabling a monster.

Is OCAP Trying To Setup Mayor Rob Ford? (Feat. Sigrid Kneve & The Mystery Man)

Who is the mystery man in the blue coat?

Who is the mystery man in the blue coat?

Remembrance Day was last week, a non-holiday (most people work) where Canadians take a brief moment to remember people who have fought and died at war. Despite his having just admitted lying to the whole city, Mayor Rob Ford showed up to preside over the ceremonies. This of course meant that Ford had to endure another walk of shame in front of the TV cameras.

A video by Blogwrath.com caught the action that day, showing the media mobbing around Ford as he quietly made his way from Old City Hall. It being Remembrance Day, the media were quiet- none of the reporters asked Ford any questions. Then a heckler showed up…

Remembrance Day Update: Elder Activist Criticises First Nations Protester & APTN Interviews Toronto Police (Feat. John Fox Sr.)

Davyn Calfchild (a.k.a. Davin Ouimet) in a his previous role as a 'reverend'

Yesterday a group of self promoting professional activists intentionally caused a disturbance at Toronto’s Remembrance Day ceremonies. The pack was led by Davyn Calfchild/Ouimet, an indigenous/Yemeni protester who has been tried the same trick for three years in a row now- march into the ceremonies wearing fatigues (with a Bob Marley Lion of Zion patch sewed on) and battle for his right to fly an indigenous flag.

It’s a Quixotic battle, and Ouimet knows that. Last year he admitted that he’s never reached out to ask organizers if he can bring his flag. It was a staged incident, they wanted to create a media event and they succeeded. One day later the protester’s story is continuing to unravel, and people are beginning to see through the deception. Many have realized the distastefulness of Ouimet’s protest, including a well known elder indigenous activist.

Toronto Police Arrest ‘Veteran’ At Remembrance Day Ceremony (Feat. Davyn Calfchild & Gary Wassaykeesic)

Davin Ouimet (a.k.a. Dayn Calfchild) gets belligerent (again) with the police

Davin Ouimet (a.k.a. Dayn Calfchild) gets belligerent (again) with the police

It’s Remembrance Day in Canada, a time when Canadians remember the great sacrifices made by people who’ve served in past wars- this is a solemn event in most cities. Not so in Toronto, last year a group of misguided protesters tried to interrupt the ceremonies and got into a scuffle with the police.

The Toronto Sun’s report on the ceremonies claimed “Toronto does itself proud with uninterrupted Remembrance Day ceremony“. Things were more quiet this year (there was no violence) however, a group of the usual suspects did show up and (as expected) they got belligerent with the police. Then something unexpected happened, instead of their usual tactic of ignoring the protester’s insults and profanity and telling them to go away, the police took decisive action and took them into custody.

One of the arrested protesters claims to be a veteran…

Astroturf Environmentalists Hijack Grassroots At CPC Convention Protest (Feat Suzuki, Levant DePape & Alinsky)

Can you spot the Sierra Club anarchist?

Can you spot the Sierra Club anarchist?

This week the Conservative party held its convention in Calgary. It was a good choice, the Prime Minister’s riding is there and it’s an easy city for the CPC to round up a nice sized crowd. There’s also an added benefit- Alberta’s a lot less left-leaning than the rest of the country, so it’s more difficult for Harper’s rapid detractors to build up any resistance.

With so few supporters in Calgary and the high cost of shipping people in, what’s the union/ENGO industrial complex to do? The answer is simple, it’s a tactic they’ve been using since time immemorial- drag other groups into their web and try to hijack their movements. In this case they used the same leaders and activist superstars who helped during the Canadian Occupy movement.
