By suppressing speech?
There’s a global controversy brewing around the University of Toronto right now. It all started on November 16th when a group of radical feminists, anarchists, and some students (who said they were sent by their Women’s Studies class) showed up to blockade people from entering an auditorium.
On the other side of the situation was a man named Warren Farrell, and a crowd of people who paid for tickets to enter the event. Farrell is a writer and activist who has written seven books on the subject of men’s & women’s rights. He was one of the most vocal men in support of second wave feminism, and was also on the board of the NYC chapter of National Organization for Women (NOW) from 1971-1974. Over time, NOW became more radical, and Farrell fell out with them. He later became recognized as a major figure in the Men’s Movement.
Farrell is a controversial figure- particularly with people in Canada’s Old-Left- the anarchists and (fringe) feminists have no patience for this guy. What they did gives us a very good example of the world they’d like to see in the future. And, I can assure you, it’s a future that very few of us want to see…

Occupy has failed…
I’m sure you’ve heard the news about HSBC by now- the US Government has decided not to pass indictments against them for money laundering. And the reason? Well, it appears that HSBC is too big to jail. What we’ve been told to believe is that if they arrest executives at HSBC, the entire banking system is at risk of a collapse. They also have some lovely property to sell you on beautiful Lake Okeechobee.
HSBC has been accused of enabling drug lords and ‘renegade governments’ launder billions of dollars through their bank. This is a very serious allegation, with some very serious circumstances- if anyone in the “99%” committed a crime like this it’s likely they would get a very harsh punishment. But, in today’s world, bankers have become immune…

GE-Hitachi: Is this just a distraction from the trains?
Update: Anarchist Ashleigh Ingle may have a twin! It’s been brought to my attention that the person I identified as Ashleigh Ingle may have been an assistant to Jonah Schein. If so, there’s an incredible resemblance- right down to their purple framed glasses! I’ve changed the article to remove that information- will write an update when more information is available please accept my apologies for any confusion.
I went to an interesting community meeting about West Toronto’s uranium oxide plant on Saturday. The meeting itself was rather dull- there was a panel with people from GE, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), and the Toronto Environmental Alliance, and NDP MP Andrew Cash.
Zach Ruiter was there too, and a large contingent of his supporters. From what I could tell, there were more NDP operatives and anti-nuclear campaigners at the meeting than there were neighbours of the plant. There was a lot of manipulation going on too- on many different levels…

Jamie Lee Hamilton just made a super-interesting posting on her Facebook page. What she says not only exposes some pretty dirty information on what’s been happening at the City of Vancouver funded W2 Media Centre, but also some insights to the Robert Pickton serial killer inquiry. It seems that there’s a lot more to the story here, and what’s happened at the W2 is more than a just a case of poor judgement.
I’ll write more as I dig deeper into the situation. All I know now is that the city MUST have a full inquiry…
