NDP Candidate Fights Bill C-51, Backs Anti-Canadian Violence Advocate (Feat. Jacqui Gingras)

Jacqui Gingras: Hates Bill C-51, fetishizes revolutionaries

Jacqui Gingras: Hates Bill C-51, loves revolutionaries

Jacqui Gringas is the NDP’s candidate for North Okanagan-Shuswap, a riding covering towns including Vernon and Salmon Arm, BC. With the exception of a year spent as executive director for a now defunct charity, Gringas’ LinkedIn page gives the impression she’s spent her whole life as an academic. Her last job was as an associate professor at Ryerson University- she recently moved home to run in the election, chances are she’ll hightail it back if she loses.

The press release announcing Gingras’ candidacy claimed that she’s “campaigned for climate justice with LeadNow, for a fair economy with the Occupy movement, and for Indigenous treaty rights with Idle No More”. The first claim can be confirmed, but there’s no evidence available to prove she’s taken part in Occupy or Idle No More (I’ve participated in and researched these movements in-depth and never heard of her until now).

If you’ve been following this website’s research on LeadNow then you probably already hear the alarm bells- their leader Jamie Bigger personally apologized to me in 2012 after he and his colleague publicly called on supporters to overthrow the government. But it gets worse folks, two days ago Gingras backed the country’s most prominent supporter and enabler of far-left violence- a woman who’s openly declared that Canada is an illegitimate country.

Bad judgement, or part of the gang?

Bad judgement, or part of the gang?

On August 17th, just two days ago, Gingras signed a petition on Thunderclap petition started by Vancouver activist Harsha Walia. The petition was for a new initiative apparently being led by Walia called NeverHome.ca, the website is currently only an “under construction” page.

Walia is Canada’s most prominent supporter of Black Bloc style violence and street fighting with the police. In 2010 she openly declared her support and “deep respect” for people who “de-arrest”, a violent tactic that involves large crowds threatening and using physical force against the police to pull back their comrades who are being arrested. This website’s favourite quotation, “this movement is not about breaking windows, but it is about breaking windows” can be seen on the video below.

Walia is often on the front-lines of activist violence. At the 2010 G20 she was leading the march, clearing space for the Black Bloc with her husband Harjap Grewal. She was right on the front lines at Occupy Vancouver when Black Bloc thugs got into a street fight with Vancouver Police (one who got hit over the head with a heavy wood pole). She was also right on the front line at Vancouver’s violent May Day dance party when a group of violent thugs clashed with and intimated a group of very nervous-looking police officers.

Adding insult to injury, not only does Walia support the use of violent protest, but she also doesn’t recognise the legitimacy of the Canadian state. Walia, as she recently wrote in an article for the Venezuelan state-owned news agency teleSUR, doesn’t think much of politicians either- saying “No, politicians don’t really care about our families”. Considering Gingrass’ support for Harsha Walia, we can presume she doesn’t care much for Canadian families either.

What does "health activism" have to do with the Arab Spring?

What does “health activism” have to do with the Arab Spring?

In 2014, Gingras led a seminar at the Fourth International Critical Dietetics Conference, at the Dominican University in Illinois. It sounded kind of wacky, exploring “health activism” in the context of Occupy, Idle No More, and the Arab Spring. That last one is curious, when one of her former comrades at LeadNow.ca called to overthrow the government in 2012 he shared the stage with a man who claimed to be one of the leaders of the Egyptian revolution.

One of the patterns I’ve discovered studying the fight against Bill C-51 is that many of the legislation’s most vocal opponents are people who I genuinely hope are being watched by the government. Gingras appears to follow that trend, politicians who are either stupid or corrupt enough to support an anti-Canadian violence promoting revolutionaries like Harsha Walia seem to be a genuine danger to the public- and, of course, she’s vehemently against Bill C-51.

Dear friends in Central BC, whoever you vote for in this election, don’t vote for Jacqui Gingras- or (of course) any other politician who signs up their support for violent thugs…
