Two weeks ago Toronto City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam tweeted out a picture of a hate-filled letter that was mailed to her office at City Hall. The envelope was postmarked on April 10th. It’s unknown when …

A statement was released yesterday on an anarchist website by a group identifying themselves as “some anarchists”. In it they not only claim to have sabotaged a train line, but have also given simple instructions on how to do it. If true, this is a dangerous progression (and matches some of the organizer’s Ruckus Society training).
The online representative for the pipeline occupiers responded cheering…
Update: If you check out this video from the CBC you’ll see that the native protester is a young man and that the police treated him exceedingly politely.

The Line 9 pipeline pumping station hijacking is now officially over- the police came in this morning, 20 protesters were arrested and it’s been reported they’ve all now been released. Some of the leaders of the hijacking have a raw hatred for the police, so it’s inevitable they’ll throw in some anti-cop theatre. This protest’s grand finale comes in the form of a native man’s headdress and ‘regalia’.
Though it’s unknown if the man was wearing his headdress throughout the occupation, but he was wearing it at the time of his arrest. A headdress doesn’t fit very well into a police van, and it’s standard procedure to take away satchels and other decorative items when someone is arrested. The cops did their job by the book- which is exactly what the protesters had hoped for and knew was coming.

It’s been frustrating watching CBC Hamilton’s coverage of the Enbridge pipeline hijacking. On the one hand their reporting has been useful- though it appears unintentional, Adam Carter’s picture of Trish Mills locking the gates helped expose we’re dealing with the usual suspects. But, his lack of naming names was embarrassing- particularly with infamous protesters like Alex Hundert and Ruby Montour taking visible leadership roles.
Today the CBC did a follow-up story titled National protests will support Hamilton Enbridge activitists [sic]- a piece showcasing how people ‘across the country’ will be protesting in a “day of solidarity’ for the hijackers. But, unfortunately, the quality of Ryan Mallough’s reporting was no better than CBC editor’s spell-checking skills. Like Carter, Mallough must have completely missed that he was being taken for a ride (or, not).

Alex Hundert: Mastermind & Ringleader Behind the G20 Black Bloc violence…
Some breaking news on the pipeline hijacking in Flamborough. New videos were released by the Hamilton Spectator that give more insight into the hijackers and their lack of respect for civil society- things are getting very interesting. But equally, things are looking potentially dangerous- some of Ontario’s most notorious militant cop haters now have control of an oil pipeline pumping station.
The protester’s narrative already appears to have some serious holes. Their official statements about Enbridge’s licensing requirements conflict with what other environmental organizations have been saying. Indicators are the protesters have not been telling the whole truth. They also don’t appear to have entirely ruled-out the use of violence.

Native “official” representatives (Ruby Montour on right)
UPDATE: The Media Co-Op has removed Trish Mills’ story from their website. A cached version is available here.
A group of people have occupied a pipeline pumping station today. Enbridge has put in an application to reverse the flow of “Line 9” from the current east-to-west, to carry oil from west-to-east. The protesters are concerned that the reversal will result in the line being used to carry bitumen from the Tar/Oil Sands. Proponents of the change say it will help Canada’s east coast reduce our reliance on imported oil.
Like most contemporary environmental protests, the activists have used indigenous representatives to speak with the media- it’s a common tactic. In this case the spokespeople come from the Six Nations reserve, but are not official representatives of the band council. Ruby Montour (on the right) is a well-known professional protester who was recently sued for $350,000 for her participation in protests in Brantford in 2007-08.
But, despite the presence of indigenous spokespeople, this protest is very similar to the Sarnia rail blockade this winter- and includes some of the same Occupy Toronto anarchists who were found behind the scene back in December…
