MediaWatch: Ethan Cox Proves That Rabble.ca Is Budgie Paper! (UPDATED)

If It was run by Judy Rebick – you know it is gonna be crap!

When I wrote my story a few days ago about why Canada needs an honest alternative online publication I mentioned that Rabble.ca has been known for printing mistruths. It didn’t take long for them to prove my point. Listen Rabblers, that wasn’t a challenge for you to prove me right, the idea was that maybe you would start being more careful checking your facts!

This week’s piece of Rabblesque genius was written by Ethan Cox- here’s a very telling excerpt from his biography at the top of the story:

“Rabble’s Special Correspondent on the Quebec student strike, Ethan Cox is a 28 year-old organizer, comms guy and writer from Montreal. He cut his political teeth accrediting the Dawson Student Union against ferocious opposition from the college administration and has worked as a union organizer for the Public Service Alliance of Canada.”

As you can see, once again, Rabble has assigned a writer who has little chance of writing the story from an independent viewpoint. Assigning Cox to write about the student strikes is going to bring as much independence to the story as assigning Captain Ahab to criticise the Japanese whaling industry. But, that’s what is to be expected from Rabble.

Ethan’s story is titled 80,000 take to the streets of Montreal, as Human Rights Commission declares Bill 78 unconstitutional. Besides his general lack of creativity, Cox is telling a whale of a lie on this one. Every other publication that covered this story told a more realistic number of 10,000-15,000 people who marched on July 22nd.

When I was writing my last MediaWatch story, I was wondering to myself which publication was more crap- Iran’s PressTV, or Rabble. Well, Ethan Cox answered that question for me with this article- Rabble wins that prize today. As you can see, even PressTV got the number of people right!

I’m going to ask a stupid question now- you all know what the answer is. Do you think that it is possible that Rabble published the number of 80,000 because they are working to promote the student marches? Of course, silly, Rabble is funded by the very unions who are promoting this cause. And, as I’ve already pointed out, Cox is a highly biased person to have assigned to the job.

As I’ve said a few times in the past- don’t take Rabble’s word for much of anything. Their bias clouds their vision…

UPDATE:

Ethan Cox admits he took his numbers directly from CLASSE, and that he could only confirm 50K in his estimation. This makes my case…
