I read an interesting story in the Gulf News today- The Beginning Of A Great Game In Afghanistan. The article discusses how “regional states (are) busy carving out their respective spheres of influence.” Basically, everyone is fighting for their slice of the pie. It’s an interesting story, and has some parallels with what’s happening in Canada- things like pipelines, copper mines, small populations, and lack of military power. There is some exciting news coming-up on the Occupy documentary front. The Occupation Documentary is being premièred in Vancouver on October 15th. The film was made by Rafferty Baker and Matthew J. Van Deventer, two BCIT journalism students who were present (with video camera) every day at Occupy Vancouver. If something significant happened at Occupy Vancouver, they probably got it on-film (including someone bashing a cop on the face with a flagpole after Harsha Walia showed-up with Black Bloc.)

Velcro Ripper – Look closely at the backdrop (and ignore Ethan Cox)
The old-left’s exploitation of the Occupy movement has been monumental. As soon as Occupy started, they came out with their fangs showing and grasped all the power they could. They came from all sides- radical feminists, entryist marxists, and several flavours of watermelon environmentalists (green on the surface, red on the inside.) Each of them wrestled for some control so that they could be the vanguard of the ‘revolution’. It was quite the spectacle.
It’s over now, so we don’t have to worry any longer about their (mis)appropriating the movement- right? Well, there’s still one more thing left to be done- they need to write the history.

I received a request yesterday from Royce White Calf, a member of the American Indian Movement, to post a warning about Kevin Annett. White Calf has engaged with Dennis Banks to help get the message out. Banks is a co-founder of the American Indian Movement, and a survivor of the American Residential School program, who has been an activist for indigenous issues most of his life.
This should send a clear message to Kevin Annett (and his supporters) that the indigenous people don’t want him representing their case…
