Another G20 Vandal Is In Court This Week…

Eva Botton – Vandal who terrorized Torontonians during the G20…

There’s, yet another, G20 criminal going to court this week. This time it is Eva Botton, a BC based criminology (yes, that isn’t a typo) student from Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Botton faces five cases of mischief over $5,000 and is alleged to have caused over $160,000 of damage during the G20. She was also charged with wearing a disguise to commit an indictable offence.

Prior to being arrested as a G20 criminal, Botton was most well-known for being an organizer of “Friends 4 Food” at Kwantlen. The organization was created to protest the school’s contract with food supplier Sodexo. This seems like a good cause to me, way too many university students have to suffer through the pain of Sodexo’s poor quality food.

Botton was arrested in BC, and extradited to Ontario to appear in court in Toronto. She was released on $30,000 bail, but with conditions that she couldn’t mix with people from anarchist groups like AW@L, SOAR and No One Is Illegal. Due to her court and travel expenses Botton had to withdraw from her courses in criminology (which was probably a good idea anyhow).

Botton will be in court all of this week- anarchist groups are promoting that others attend in ‘support’ of Botton’s crimes. One of their websites says that she’s “a nice person” so she deserves the support. Ask that of the people who were inside the stores where she smashed the windows- they were terrified.

There’s a lesson here for all of the people who are planning to go to Ottawa for Take Canada Back on the 17th. It’s no fun getting arrested in a city far away from home. In Ottawa people have got arrested for simply marching on the street- things are different there. Everyone I’ve spoken to who’s gone to protests in Ottawa has said the same- it is dangerous territory.
